Aaleyah wandered through the thick vegetation, thinking that the scenery was beautiful, yet cautious all the same. She had no idea where she was and somewhat didn't care, for she was away from the stallion who killed her family and treated her so ruthlessly for so many years. As she walked farther she heard running water and realized how thirsty she was, she walked slowly toward the water and leaned down to take a drink. All the while listenng carefully to all of the noises around her, picking them apart and identifyng what they were. Always looking, always listening she never stopped long enough to really enjoy a time of sleep, she only took enough to get by then went on her way. Although somehow this time was different, she felt a small amount of safety here that she had not fet anywhere else she had been. She felt as if she did not have to woory so much this time, that she could be alone in this secluded area and no one that she had to worry about would happen upon her chosen resting spot. So after she had had her fill of the water she bent her her head and started to eat the sweet, tender grass. She ate each bite slowly and savored the sweet taste, the grass was green more green than any grass she had ever seen before and it tasted better too. Soon she was satisfied and she decided to take a short nap. She laid down beneath a large oak tree and closed her eyes. Soon she fell into a restless sleep and dreamed of her beautiful mother and her handsome father, she dreamed of how it used to be before they had died and wanted to stay there forever, then her dream took a horrible turn and she began dreaming of the stallion that had stolen it all away from her. Even though she slept, she was listening to everything around her for anything that could pose a threat to her.

He'd finally done it; Anarchy had finally decided his herd was far too small, and that it was his job to make it grow. So he'd given Adelaide and Lark kisses on their cheeks, told them to listen to Hibiki, and galloped off before he could change his mind. Thinking of his children nearly made him cry, but he kept himself moving forward with a neutral expression, knowing that he was doing this for them. He was sure his children would he happier with a large herd, where they'd have friends and other foals to play with. While Lark and Adelaide were self-sufficient, keeping each other company despite their splintering interests, he too longed for the pitter-patter of soft, small foal feet. He moved at a relaxed, ground covering trot, his head high and observant. He'd been moving at his slow, two beat gait for nearly an hour now, and he was beginning to feel it. His breathing didn't come as easily as it had before, but he was sure he could keep up the pace for at least another half hour. But he didn't need to, he decided; what was the rush? Sure, he didn't want to be gone from his home for more than a few days, but he knew that the willow tree was a busy place, and he'd certainly run into a wandering mare soon. The burbling sound of a stream caught the stallion's attention, so he picked up his trot and changed course. He was upon the stream in moments, and he leaped easily over it. He skidded to a halt and twisted his body quickly, his head lowering so he could drink. The water here was clear as glass, but it made him long for the mineral rich waters of his home. While the lack of blood's water had a distinct taste to it, it was surely better than this, and his palette had grown used to the blood red water. He raised his head slowly, water dribbling from his lips and back into the stream. He spotted hoofprints in the mud and grass that surrounded the stream, and his entire body became stiff with excitement. TWISTING BURNING LIVING DYING LOVING BREAKING SCREAMING CRYING The stallion's head shot up, and he glanced around for the other equine. The tracks were still fairly fresh, so hopefully he'd be able to catch up to the other horse. Finding no other horses with his eyes, he took a deep whiff of the air. His silvery blue eyes fell shut as he searched for the smell of another equine, his long black tail flicking and smacking against his thigh. A smile flitted across his lips when he pinpointed the scent of a mare, but she smelled tired and unhealthy. Concern danced across his features, and he took off at a trot towards an oak tree, where the mare's scent seemed to come from. He could only hope she'd be there when he arrived; he decided he wouldn't chase this one mare for very long. As he approached the tree, his gait slowed and his steps became nearly silent. He had tuned out the sound of his own feet, but he didn't want to scare the mare; or would it be best to go in loud and obvious? He opted for somewhere in between, and with each step he tossed his hooves down with a little more force than required. By now he could see the mare, her chestnut and white form curled up beneath the oak. Her form was dappled by the tree's shade, and a smile curled across the stallion's lips; she was lovely. He let out a low nicker as he approached, coming to a halt about twenty feet away from the sleeping mare. He was content to watch her sleep for a moment, the he decided he had to wake her. " Ah, hello?" he said, uncertainty tainting his deep, masculine voice. He felt awful about waking the mare, but he wanted to speak to her, to hear her pretty voice. And maybe, just maybe, she'd come with him to the lake of blood. But there's always a chance she'll leave too, just like the other mares he'd found and fallen in love with, he thought with a frown.

Aaleyah heard hooves hitting the ground through her deep sleep, and each hoof beat became louder, but as hard as she tried she couldn't wake herself. Then the sound stopped and all she heard was another horse breathing. Still she could not bring herself from the black void, then the horse said hello and that is what woke her, it was the voice of a stallion.
Aaleyah's head shot up and she jumped up, but her malnourished body protested to the sudden movement and she stumbled and almost fell to the ground. When she regained her balance she began to back away hereyes never leaving the unknown stallion. Her eyes wild, her nostrils flared and her ears back she was too scared to eveb attempt to run.
As she watched him waiting for him to attack her or worse she began to noticethat he really didn't seem all that threatening, he most definitely was not the evil stallion from her past. After what semmed like hours she said hello back to him, her voice was a little raspy from disuse but still held the soft sweetness it had before her life was destroyed. She waited uncertaintly for him to respond hoping that she had made the right choice.

Anarchy waited for the mare to respond, his breathing shallow and slow as he waited for a response. She seemed to be dreaming, no, she was trapped in a nightmare. Her ears twitched rapidly, constantly returning to his form to show that she was quite aware of his presence. His ears were glued to her pretty chestnut form, watching the emotions that played across her face. He was going to speak again, maybe even touch her; he was alarmed by the relative lack of response from the mare. He found his ghostly colored eyes drifting over the mare's emaciated form; she was thin and surely a bit sickly, but she was still pretty. He could see scars from abuse on her sides, and his ears fell back, anger filling him. He wanted to harm whoever had been so violent to her. Anarchy took a step back when the mare's still form erupted in panic, his ears fluttering to and fro as he tried to understand what was happening. Her head shot skywards, and he lowered his own to show he meant no harm. He leaned a little closer as her body nearly sank back to the ground, but he felt himself relax a bit more when she found her balance. He felt his stomach sink as she backed away, her eyes wide and full of terror. Was he really that scary? The stallion found himself wondering if he was genuinely frightening... Lark had been concerned about him for a time, but as the young colt had grown to know the stud, he'd gradually relaxed in the big stud's presence. Maybe the mare would relax around him with time, but Anarchy honestly didn't want to wait. TWISTING BURNING LIVING DYING LOVING BREAKING SCREAMING CRYING A wary smile fluttered across his lips when the mare seemed to relax a bit, her eyes flashing with recognition. He wondered if she'd been stuck in her dreams, unable to return to reality. Her tentative voice broke the tense silence between the pair, and he felt himself relax a bit more, but a sort of pity burned within him. He quickly banished it, knowing that he wouldn't want pity if he was in her situation. He'd want understanding and concern, but not pity, especially from a stranger. He flicked his tail, taking a step back and lowering his head again to be as respectful as possible. He didn't want the mare to fear him; he didn't want anyone to fear him, especially this young mare that seemed quite lost and out of place here. He knew that panic and fear didn't suit her and her pretty face, but he'd save compliments for when she was more relaxed. " I'm sorry; I didn't mean to startle you," he said, lowering his head a bit more. He looked up at the mare with soft eyes, hoping she'd understand that he meant her no ill will. " My name is Anarchy... What's yours? And what brought you here, if I may ask?" he said, trying to start slow and not push the mare with too many questions. He was sure she'd catch on right away that his intentions were to take her home and care for her, but he could never say that out loud. He kept his tone gentle and low, a kind purr in his deep chest. Her voice was rather sweet and soft, if a bit rusty from misuse. Anarchy's pink nostrils flared as he took in the scent of spring and the worried mare.

Aaleyah watched the stallion cautiously as he spoke to her. He told her his name was Anarchy, with each word her spoke she became more relaxed and felt more at ease. When he finished she felt compelled to share her name, "My name is Aaleyah, I don't know where I am and I ended up here because I was just running..." Aaleyah stopped mid sentence because she realized she had said too much. She wasn't ready to tlk about her past to him just yet. Ashamed, she lowered her eyes and looked at the ground.
She was tired and very hungry, but she did not want to admit this to the stallion because she wanted to appear strong in front of him. After a couple of minutes she raised her eyes to look at him again and was surprised tat she thought that he was very handsome. She had never felt that way about anyone and was a little frghtened of those emotions. She could tell that he was kind hearted and meant her no harm, but she wasn't completely sure that she could trust him yet.
Tentatively she quietly asked, "I have told you why I ended up here, what about you?" She waited anxiously for his response hoping that she had made the right choice in deciding to speak to him more. The longer she stood the more her legs protested and threatened to give way from underneath her, this worried her because she knew that she had neglected her health a bit, but she hadn't realized how much of a toll it had actually taken on her. Quietly she tried to muster the strength to keep standing hoping that he di not notice her weakness but knowing that he probably did.

Anarchy was glad the mare had calmed; her panic had been a low enough blow to his confidence, but if she hadn't relaxed he wasn't sure what he would have done. Would he have left? Maybe. Would have screamed at her to relax and listen? Perhaps. His temper was something he had a weak grasp on at best, but when his mares had vanished, he'd had plenty of time to think. And with all that time to think, he'd began to master his emotions and bridge the gap between his two personalities. He was in a happy place now, somewhere between stupid elegance and rampant, rude relaxation. He gave his head a little shake, forcing himself to focus on the mare before him and her response to his questions. " It's nice to meet you, Aaleyah..." he said, a soft smile spreading across his dark lips. He was a little surprised she didn't know where she was, but he felt he should enlighten her. " We're near the willow tree," he pointed his muzzle to the north of their position, where the willow tree was just a twig. " Which is where horses typically go to find friends or mates." he nodded, feeling glad that he could pass on this information to the mare. He let his eyes run over her thin, weak form, and he felt his heart flutter in his heart. He was sure that a visit to the lake of blood would do her good; the mineral rich would would help her recuperate, and at this time of year the buffalo grass was greening and delightful. TWISTING BURNING LIVING DYING LOVING BREAKING SCREAMING CRYING He was a little alarmed of her tale, and he couldn't help but wonder where she'd ran from. He wondered if something had been chasing her, if she'd escaped from circumstance, if she'd just lost her way. But it wasn't his place to ask; she could tell him, if she wanted to. He'd already asked his question, and he'd noticed the panic on her face, the fear that she'd revealed too much. His smile was gentle, telling her that it was okay, and that she had nothing to fear. Their eyes met, but he quickly averted his gaze, embarrassed that he'd been staring. While Aaleyah certainly wasn't in good condition, she was a pretty, sweet mare. " Oh, me?" he said, as if he hadn't anticipated her question. He dipped his head to scratch his chin on his knee, his tail swaying slowly at flies that didn't exist. " I was headed to the willow tree to... find some mares. My herd is small, and I was hoping to change that. I caught your scent, and I was curious." he finished. He thought that if he was to win the mare over, the truth would be the way to go. He didn't want to ask her if she'd come with him, at least not yet. Maybe, if he was lucky, she would even ask him. Surely she could see that his pelt was shiny, and while his ribs were faintly visible beneath his skin because of his fine blood, he was a healthy stallion. He wasn't sure what had happened to her in the past, but he knew he could help her future.

Aaleyah listened carefully to what the stallion said, when he told her where she was she followed his gaze with her own. When he smiled at her it made her feel warm inside, although she did not know why. She watched his eyes roam over her thin form and smiled sheepishly, for a mare of her age should certainly know how to take care of herself. As she watched the thought move across his face when she gave too much information about her past she could tell that he was trying to figure out what had happened to her. She was very appreciative when she Saw that he was too polite to say anything about it. She wasn't ready to talk about it yet, maybe someday, but not now. When she answered her question about why he was here she thought she had put two and two together and she replied hesitantly, "so...you are her because you are looking for a mate?" As she waited for his reply she thought about her emotions, how she felt about him, how she thought she felt about him whether she really felt this way or not. She liked him she knew that, and she thought him a kind and trustworthy stallion, at least he presented him as such. But beyond that she honestly wasn't sure. If his answer to her question was yes part of her wanted to go with him right then and there, but the other part still wasn't sure. In short she did not know which part was her heart talking and which part was her head talking. [/img] aspenranchrealestate.com/images/blondieleftside.jpgAttachments:

Anarchy's ears fluttered to and fro as the mare seemed to digest what he had said. He could almost see the gears turning in her pretty little head, he thought with a delicate smile. She seemed to be relaxed by his goodwill and kindness, and he was relaxed too. His hip was cocked, and his jet black tail fluttered back and forth. He let his gaze wander, and he silently scanned the horizon for other beings. He was content that his eyes found nothing, but he inhaled sharply to be sure that they were genuinely alone. He was content to find nothing but the smell of mare and stallion, but beneath that sat were the scents of a thousand boys and girls that had come here to find loved ones or companions. He couldn't find it, but he was sure that if one searched hard enough, they would find his own smell, intertwined with whatever mares he'd found here. He was sad that he couldn't remember all the mares he'd known and loved, but it wasn't his fault that they had abandoned him, he thought with a deep frown. " Yes, I'm here to find mares for my herd," he said gently, his voice soft. He didn't use the word mate; he felt it was something wonderful and sacred, reserved for beings less selfish than him that were monogamous. Wolves had mates; Anarchy was not nearly as divine and deserving of the term as a wolf. There was little dedication between mare and stallion, more so in his case than any other. Mates wouldn't abandon one another, he decided. " My herd was once large and prosperous, the biggest anywhere, but as the years have passed my mares have left me. I've always been open and generous with my home, allowing strangers to come and go, to meet my children and steal my heart." the stallion paused, his words not coming as easily as he'd hoped. He'd rehearsed this speech in his mind so many times, but that meant nothing. It was still embarrassing, annoying that a stud like himself had to convince a mare to come with him. TWISTING BURNING LIVING DYING LOVING BREAKING SCREAMING CRYING Anarchy pinned his ears, tilting his head back to stare at the sky. He glared into the atmosphere, as if his gaze would force the answer to come to him. What was he to say to her? He sighed lightly, shutting his eyes for a moment, enjoying the breeze toying with his mane. " If you come with me, Aaleyah, I'll do everything in my power to keep you happy." he said, his words sincere. He dropped his head to look at the mare, wondering if his words were getting through. How could he convey his intentions, his desires to care for this mare with words alone? His body tensed; the stallion couldn't remember the last time he was so uncomfortable. " I live a few days of travel from here, in the lake of blood. Would you like to come with me, Aaleyah?" he said, his ears perking forward. He smiled brightly at the mare, hoping he'd convinced her with his lame speech. Heck, most dark stallions stole mares, nipped them on the rump and drove them home, but here he was, laying his heart on the line and trying to convince this mare to come with him. He wasn't sure what he'd do if she said no, but he had to stay positive. That's what his dam had said, his dear, sweet dam had told him to always be positive, and to always hold that pretty head of his high. The stallion straightened a little bit, arching his neck as he'd done so many times before.

Aaleyah was happy to hear that Anarchy was looking for mares, even if she didn't want to admit it. she was saddened by the news that the mares in his herd had left him, she thought that because of how nice and understanding he was that no one would ever want to leave the herd. If she was a part of his herd she would never leave his side, unless he told her to go.
As she listened Aaleyah shifted her weight to her right back leg and swatted her silky white tail at the obnoxious flies that were buzzing around her. When he had finished speaking she replied by asking, "how could anyone want to leave your herd? you seem like such a nice and understanding stallion, which is something that I have seen only once in my life."
Aaleyah had found herself trusting Anarchy and wishing that he would ask her to come with him. Then an amazing thing happened, he asked her to come live with him. She was so happy she could hardly contain it but she tried her best not to let it show. Although her voice wavered she said, "I would love to come with you, but you don't have to go above and beyond to try to keep me happy."
Even as happy as she was she couldn't help wondering what this stallion saw in her, for she was emaciated and had scars on different places on her body. How could he not think she was ugly? Ajitabh, the stallion who abused her for so many years never missed an opportunity to tell her how ugly she was and how no stallion would ever want her now, he always said this after he was done beating her. But even though she was wondering this she did not want to ask him out loud.

Time seemed to stop as Anarchy waited for the mare’s answer. His ears were pinned anxiously to his head, his eyes nearly rolling as he began to work up a nervous sweat. He forced himself to take a deep breath, to focus on his legs and his nose. His nostrils flared and leaned forward on his toes, then back on his heels. This was how he calmed himself, by forcing himself to focus on trivial things and ignore whatever was troubling him. Lately it had been working; he had so much to think about. Why worry about that rustling in the bushes, the scary scent on the air, when he can focus on his children. He’d stand still, eyes soft and unfocused. But that would be rude, now, in the audience of this emaciated mare. The stallion gave his head a gentle toss to clear his head, and he felt his heart begin to race when her sweet voice hit the air. He knew the look in her eye; sadness, and a weak pity. But beneath that, there was something else so he didn’t shy away. His legs screamed at him to run, to take off with whatever pride he could muster, but his legs felt weak. He didn’t know what to do, so his head sunk a little lower. He wanted desperately to be back home, so he could surround himself with his children, and he’d press his head to Axisha’s chest and tell her all of his problems. His heart seized, feeling awful for not speaking to the mare before he’d left. She’d be drifting around his territory for quite some time, and to him it seemed she was debating leaving him. But still, his love for the mare was strong, and he was nearly choked by the flood of emotions within him. He wanted this mare to come with him; he wanted his other mares to return. He forced out a shaky breath, raising his head to look at Aaleyah. He knew that beneath the grime and with some more meat on her bones, she'd be a flashy, attractive mare. But now, he was drawn to her by her soft eyes and gentle personality, and the desire to help her. “ I don‘t know… I try, I try so hard to make them happy,” he raised his head, his remorse twisting to neutrality. Like a light switch, he shut off the emotion he felt and looked politely at the mare. “ But I obviously haven‘t done enough.” his voice was tight and strained; he struggled to admit his shortcomings. Really, he had no idea why his mares had vanished. All he’d known was that his love was blind, so he’d flirted and squealed and enjoyed his time with the mares. And still, he’d done all of his duties. He patrolled borders for predators and intruders with the aid of his wolf companion, he’d guided the mares to shelters in storms, he’d kept a close eye when they relaxed and grazed and talked of whatever mares like to talk about when they’re grazing and their stallion is watching like a hawk. The stallion shifted his weight a bit, his silver-blue eyes blinking heavily. TWISTING BURNING LIVING DYING LOVING BREAKING SCREAMING CRYING “ Wonderful.” he said lightly, is ears twitching at the mare’s wavering voice. He hadn’t asked what she’d meant when she confessed she wasn’t familiar with chivalry, but he was sure that he’d find out with time. Excitement rushed through him, and he stepped forward slowly, carefully, to press his muzzle to the mare’s cheek. He sighed happily, breathing in her scent and committing it to memory. He hoped desperately that she’d get along with the rest of his tiny herd. He wasn’t sure how Axisha would react; she was the last mare to join him, the last one to remain. He knew that Lark would be curious and beg the mare to play, but he was sure that Adelaide would be suspicious. Lately the bay filly had grown wary of all equines, her steely glares following all visitors or strangers in the distance. “ I will go out of my way to make you happy… you‘re mine now,” he said, a teasing chuckle rumbling in his throat. He danced away from the mare, flagging his tail and taking quick, high steps. “ We can rest for a bit, then head… home. Oh, Aaleyah, you‘ll love the lake of blood. It‘s so pretty there.” he said, his voice light and content as he pranced in a wide arc around the tree. His entire body felt light and unreal, and he couldn’t wait to return home with the mare. He’d come galloping home, screaming and wailing for what remained of his herd to gather around. They’d all smile brightly, introduce themselves, and then the herd would melt and they’d all become one big happy family. That was all the stallion wanted, he thought with a grim smile as he came to a halt in front of the mare. He glanced at Aaleyah out of the corner of his eye, coming to stand beside her. “ I don‘t know what the rest of the world has told you… but you‘re pretty. A diamond in the rough, if you will. I‘ll help polish you, if you‘ll let me.” he said, his voice light and airy. He trotted once more around the oak tree, his tail flagging and his steps high. When he stopped, hHe leaned a little closer to the mare that wasn’t much shorter than him, and he gently began to groom her withers. A soft sigh escaped him as he nibbled on her shoulders, careful not to harm her bony figure. He was sure that all she needed was time, then she’d be bright eyed and bushy tailed, and he’d know he’d made the right decision.

Aaleyah was genuinly happy for the first time in so long, honestly, she thought to herself, I can't remember a time that I was actually truely happy. She watched him carefully as she told him that she would go with him to his home and she saw happiness in him as well.
As she stood there she smiled a sort of half smile and reveled in this surprising happiness no matter how fleeting it might be. Then he came over to her and started to nibble at her withers. At first she was a little bewildered but after a couple of seconds she relaxed and began to enjoy it.
Aaleyah sighed with content and closed her eyes most of the wayand listened to the beautiful sounds around her. Then a question popped into her mind that she hadn't thought of until now, What is the lake of blood? And why is it called that? Aaleyah waited and listened carefully for his answer...

Anarchy was content as he nibbled at the mare's withers, his lips moving across her bony back and cleaning her fur. He loved the intimacy of grooming, and Aaleyah seemed to enjoy it also. Flicking his tail at imaginary flies, the stallion quit grooming the mare and draped his neck over the mare's back. He was careful not to put much weight on her, but he sighed happily as he used her dingy fur and bony back for a pillow. Yes, she'd be a fine, wonderful addition to his herd once she was healthy and had a skip in her step. He flicked his ear back for a moment when she asked what the lake of blood was, having anticipated the question and having answered it many times. Too many times, if one asked him, but he understood how panic and paranoia could afflict one if they weren't entirely aware of their surroundings. Anarchy had been content knowing simply that the lake of blood wasn't full of blood, but instead of minerals that stained the water and any light fur that entered it. The water was tasty, too, and he was sure that with time Aaleyah would accept the red water, and he hoped that his children and other mares would accept her too. Anger flared briefly inside him at the thought of one of his mares questioning his judgment and challenging Aaleyah's joining of his herd. Taking a soft breath, though, he was able to cool his jets and focus on the mare's question. TWISTING BURNING LIVING DYING LOVING BREAKING SCREAMING CRYING " The lake of blood is where I live, Aaleyah. And it's where you'll live, too; it's a fine territory. The lake in the center of the land is red as blood, but it's just minerals that stain it that color. It's nothing to worry about... I'll admit it's haunting at first, but you'll get used to it, I promise," he said, smiling softly. He pulled his muzzle away from the mare, giving his body a quick shake. He pressed his nose to hers for just an instant before pulling away and taking a deep whiff of the air. He smiled softly as a gust of wind toyed with his mane, but he gave his body another big shake before turning back to Aaleyah. " I think we should go now... we're a few days travel from the lake of blood. The sooner we get there, the better." he said, twisting his head to look at the mare. He admired her painted coat for a moment before turning to walk in the direction he knew that the lake of blood was. He trotted a few steps, consumed by his excitement to return home, but he forced himself to take a slower pace to accommodate the mare. Flicking his tail, the stud slowed a bit to wait for Aaleyah to catch up. He wanted to walk beside her, not lead her to her new home. He was still in disbelief that she'd agreed, but he was still stupendously happy that she'd be coming home with him. He couldn't wait to introduce her to Adelaide and Lark and Hibiki, and he hoped that Axisha would be around when he returned.
improvise, it clears the air of thought i can't imagine all the havoc i've wrought

Aaleyah relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed Anarchy grooming her. When he stopped and laid his head on her back she was content to just stand there and revel in how it felt to have someone in her life who seemed to actually care for her.
As he answered her question about the lake of blood she listened carefully, and when he was done she replied, "I have seen so many things that have haunted me continuously that red water wouldn't bug me at all. In fact it sounds interesting, better than plain clear water. Honestly I think at this point I could take anything without a big shock."
With that said she turned to follow him to his home, excited for the first time since she could remember. A little slower than him she did her best to keep pace with him, but when he noticed that she was having a hard time keeping up with him he slowed his pace and waited for her to catch up and that made her like him even more.
