~~~~~
Anarchy moved with long, slow strides, glancing back at the mare that he was leading. He'd walked beside her for a long time, but now that they were within his territory he insisted that he take the lead. He was counting on running into Hibiki, fore he knew that Aaleyah's strange scent would drag her from the woods to investigate. Altogether the journey from the willow tree to the lake of blood had been long and uneventful. They hadn't ran into any other equines, which disappointed the stallion, but left him thankful too. He'd been worried about traveling with the weak mare, but his fears had been eased. To his untrained eye she seemed to be gaining weight and doing better, but he knew that plenty of rest and grass from his home would make her right as rain.
"We're here, Aaleyah... this is the lake of blood," he said, a smile in his voice. He could just see the red lake in the distance, and knew they'd reach it in a few minutes. As they traveled through the land the sharp scent of Hibiki filled the stud's nostrils, and he suddenly remembered he hadn't warned the skinny mare of his strange companion. "Ah, dearest, I forgot to mention that while my mares may have left, a wolf has remained. Her name is Hibiki, and I promise she won't harm you. She'll give you some trouble at first, but she'll warm up to you." he said, slowing a bit, tilting his muzzle back to scent the air. The smell of the wolfess was close, but he was glad she seemed to be in a good mood.
The stallion's mood brightened when the wolf moved smoothly from the forest and began to glide towards him. He glanced over at Aaleyah, smiling brightly with reassurance. All equines were hardwired to be wary of wolves and their scent, but the constant present of the wolfess had desensitized the stud to the panic that is mind insisted he should be feeling. Picking up a quick trot, he met the wolf halfway and dipped his muzzle to sniff her ears. The wolf snapped her teeth at the stallion, but the equine was undeterred. The pair stood for several minutes, sniffing and conversing and getting reacquainted with one another.
"Hibiki, this is Aaleyah. Aaleyah, this is Hibiki. She's joining the herd... I found her at the willow tree." said the stallion, glancing at the wolfess as he lead her back to the skinny sorrel mare. Hibiki let out a snort, moving towards the mare to sniff at her. She inhaled deeply and shut her eyes to process the scent. She glanced up knowingly at the mare, as if that one whiff had revealed the mare's whole life to the canine. In a way it had, but Hibiki had nothing to say of what the mare had done and where she'd been. Surely Anarchy knew that her past wasn't sunshine and daisies, but still he had brought her here.
"It's a pleasure to meet you... Aaleyah," said the wolf, licking her lips and being sure to let the mare see her pretty teeth. "If you hurt my dear Anarchy, I'll make you regret it," she whispered, leaning forward as if she had a secret to tell the mare. Anarchy's ears pinned at the wolf's words; she hadn't tried too hard to make her words just between the two females. "Once you get settled in, I'll fetch the kiddos and we can all get acquainted." finished the wolf, moving to press her nose to Anarchy's leg and stand beside him. Anarchy gently nipped the wolf's scruff, moving away from her to stand beside Aaleyah once again. He pressed his nose to the mare's shoulder, hoping she wouldn't be too startled by the wolf. Aaleyah followed the stallion into what he called the lake of blood. She had to admit it was different but it was different in a good way, it was something new a place where she could possibly try to forget her past and focus on her future. In truth the landscape was beautiful to her. When the stallion stopped and told her they were here she she replied in a calm voice, "it's beautiful."
As they went further into the territory an unfamiliar smell assaulted her senses and she stopped short, her nostrils flared and she was getting ready to leave afraid that someone from her past was going to show up and kill her. Then Anarchy told her that it was a wolf and that she wouldn't harm her, soon she started to relax as the wolf came into view. Anarchy introduced them and Aaleyah greeted her shyly. Although, when the wolf threatened her she could not think of anything to respond with so she just nodded.
When Anarchy pressed his nose to her shoulder it made her feel more at ease yet she still tried not to make eye contact with the wolf, she really did not want any trouble and it seemed to her that the wolf did not much care for her. But all in all she felt that she would adjust to this new life just fine.
~~~~~ Anarchy wasn't exactly happy with Hibiki's behavior, but he was glad that the wolfess hadn't harassed the mare too much. There had been a moment of tenseness in the mare, a moment of panic, but it had passed, and now Aaleyah seemed content. Anarchy was glad that the mare trusted him so much, trusted him enough to let the wolf so clear, and he was sure that she'd be fine here. The lake of blood wasn't too terribly dangerous, but knowing to read the moods of the herd stallion was a useful skill for the mare. Snorting lightly, Anarchy groomed the mare's withers for a moment, and pinned his ears and Hibiki's indignant snort.
"Well, Aaleyah," he said, smiling as he pulled away from the mare. "Let's get a drink and graze for a bit, then Hibiki can go get Adelaide and Lark so you can meet them." he finished, nodding in agreement with his words. Feeling suddenly parched and also frisky, he gave his tail a flick and took off at a quick trot towards the lake. He nickered to Aaleyah to follow, and after giving the mare a glare the wolf followed the stallion's lead. The stud skidded to a halt at the lake's edge, dropping his muzzle to drink. He gulped at the red water greedily, flicking his tail contently. When he raised his head he sighed softly, gazing out across his land. He was glad to be home, and he couldn't wait to reunite with his children.
Glancing back at Aaleyah, he noticed that she was indeed filling out a bit. She was still very thin and he was terribly worried, but her spirit seemed unbroken, and that was what mattered. He was still terribly curious as to what her history was, even if some of it was very obvious. Anarchy was patient, though, and he'd wait until the mare came to him to reveal her past. The stud knew that time healed wounds... or it made them fester and ache. Frowning at his thoughts, the stallion turned back to Aaleyah to see what she thought of the lake. Hibiki daintily lapped at the water a few feet from the stallion, her watchful yellow eyes on the two equines. Although Aaleyah was worrid about the wolf's behavior towards her she put at the back of her mind as best she could, for she was sure that Anarchy would not let anything happen to her. She took one more look around the territory and decided that she liked it very much. In fact it reminded her of her old home when her family was still alive, except without the blood red lake. but she could get used to the lake as well. After she was finished taking everything in one last time she heard Anarchy call her to go with him to get a drink from the lake. and with a small nod of her head and a swish of her tail she slowly turned to follow him. As she walked towards him she thought about this Adelaide and Lark and wondered if they would dislike her as much as Hibiki seemed to. She hoped not for above all else she wanted to be accepted into this herd. As Aaleyah arrived at the bank of the lake she dropped her head and took a drink. It was only then that she realized how thirsty she was and she began to drink faster letting the cool water run down her throat. She was surprised that the water seemed to make her feel better than she had felt for as long as she could remember. When she had gotten her fill of the delicious water she lifted her head and looked at Anarchy with an amazed expression on her face. She really didn't know what to think about everythng that was happening, the only thing she did know for sure is that it all seemed to be good things and that her life was beginning to make sense again. Aaleyah smiled softly to herself as these soothing thoughts ran through her mind. Sorry it took so long to reply
