The full moon floated high in the starry sky, giving off a bright light.
Moon trotted towards the green meadow in the near distance. He was so intent on reaching it, he splashed right into a thick river.
The chestnut and white stallion snorted with surprise. Shaking his head, Moon tried to hide his embarrassment at his mistake.
Even a foal would have seen that! the handsome stallion thought to himself. He dipped his head to drink from the fast flowing water.
When he looked up, Moon snorted. He breathed the scent of the surrounding area. Nothing hit his scent glands, so Moon turned away from the river.
He turned back again and leaped into the easy gallop that came with his half Thoroughbred heritage.
At the very edge of the river, Moon gathered his hind quarters and leaped upwards.
He knew that he was not going to make it all the way, but he did make it a good two thirds of the way there.
As Moon climbed out of the river, he checked again for any other horses. Then he gave an energetic buck.
Using his pent up energy, the tall stallion tore around his chosen land. Then, standing in the middle, he check to make sure that his scent covered the area.
"This is mine!" he said to no one in particular. Then he bent to eat the lush grass.

Nit lay behind a bush and half snorted half laughed at the stallion. She nibbled on grass and her ears shot up when she heard him yell that he had claimed the territory. She stood up in panic and she swished her long black tail. She pawed the ground and looked around for another place to go. She didn't even realize she wasn't behind the bush anymore and was in sure sight of the stallion.
