I'm no good for you I take this world we live in and crush it to bits. Nothing's worth it. Shame raised his proud head, looking out over the baking hillside. Dry, brown. Not a single breathe of wind stirred the stifling air. His black coat was soaked with sweat as he stood in the direct sunlight. He flicked a fly away savagely with his tail, and shook his head to rid it of more stupid flying insects. Slowly making his way down the slope, he held his head high as though challenging the elements. They would never beat him down. Neither wind nor ice, fire or snow would stop him on his journey. Shame surveyed the land once more with slitted eyes. A closer look would show a slightly insane glint in the eyes of this horse. Never back down, his one and only order from his sire.[/font]

If you're going through Hell, keep going. Sweat matted the young stallion's usually clean fur, and he cursed the heat angrily, swishing his tail at the flies that hovered around his bony body. He had never been so unusually skinny, yet muscles outlined his delicate-looking form, and he had a look of insane detest shimmering in his dark orbs. The stallion did his best to look presentable, though, for his pride should never be harmed. He held his arched neck out wide, flaunting his inner Arabian. His nostrils flared, and his heartbeat skipped beats with excitement.
Another stallion.
Julian paused upon where he had been standing, and the sun beat mercilessly on his fur. He glared darkly in the direction of wherever he thought he scented something, and flicked his tail a little anxiously. In every direction, he thought he saw water puddles, and he shied away from the water. Hated water. Julian let out a low, horse-y hiss, and half-reared with pitiful movement. But God, he was thirsty. Whining, he trotted towards the figure of another horse, a dangerous light in his eyes.
Who knew who it was? Not he. Did he even know where the hell he was? Probably not. Julian sneered as he approached the stud, and he stretched himself to full height, arching his neck once more, and straightening his buckling knees. His mouth ached with a passionate dryness, and he managed to croak out in a raspy tone, "Who are you, stallion?" Julian eyed the stallion with a hateful glance, but wondered if the horse could help him find water. For the first time, he longed for a puddle, rain, some type of liquid.
Julian, for a fact, looked quite insane standing here looking at the stallion with narrowed eyes, but he managed to look partially like a decent hellion, his teeth slightly bared. This wasn't his land technically, or anyone's, but any stallion who came within his scent range would be faced to see Julian's judgmental, dark gaze.

The stallion looked exhausted, like Shame, and though he was thin and thirsty, was arching his neck proudly, an evil glint in his eyes. Shame tossed his head and held it high. He was a Freisian cross mustang, so quite short, but muscles rippled under his ink black coat. "My being is Shadowed Shame. I am seeking water. Might you be, too?" He said in a deep rumble.
Shame eyed the other stallion, his crazed eyes taking in every detail. Neither of them were in any condition for a stallion fight, but even so, he had to size up this other stud. He was well muscled, and would be a decent opponent if it came to it, but Shame was not in the mood to battle. He arched his neck and stood as tall as he could, he was shorter than this stud, but even so.
Shame glared at this other stallion, violent mood swings were often and numerous out here in this baking heat for him. "What do you want? What is your name?" He growled suddenly to this other stud, his dark background showing obviously. The new stud was dark too, and he would have no brute telling him what to do.
"Answer my question or beware, fool."

You know what they say? Life ain't always easy. And everyday, we're survivors. So forget the day, it's all about tonight, Act a fool and start a riot, a riot be rebel.
Julian stared at the other stallion, his eyes narrowed. Obviously, he couldn't fight this... Shadowed Shame... in the condition he was in. Julian flicked his tail, a nervous and prideful habit, and he lowered his head a little, like a snake. His teeth bared. "I don't have to tell you anything, Shadowed Shame." Julian hated being told what to do, and his ears pressed back against his skull. But he could not just get rid of this stallion, who could help him seek water. An inward battle fought inside Julian- the urge to kill, and the urge for help. His stupid pride.
The black and white Arabian-Paint cross stood in front of the other stallion, and eventually admitted to himself that he had no chance of killing. He wasn't going to give up; hell no; but he was going to find himself perhaps a minute to socialize. God, what was wrong with him? Socializing? He must be sicker than he thought.
"I am Julian," the dark stallion muttered, his orbs flickering with an evil light, "and I am searching out water as well." His throat felt parched as he spoke of the soothing liquid, and he felt his legs tremble dangerously. Julian was doing his best to show no weakness. Pride was his only way to survive in this world.
The dark stallion stared darkly and a bit menacingly at the other dark, and lazily, "What am I doing here?" Julian hesitated for a second, and then continued, his voice monotone, "I am here because I'm an outcast, no doubt. I don't have many friends," there was a pause in breath, as Julian gasped for some air, "but I don't want any." He would not be pitied.
"And so, what are you doing in this hellhole?" Julian hissed, a bit angrily. "Forgive my language," the dark stallion added on as an afterthought, "I'm in a particularly bad mood." And now he was defending his curses? Julian needed water, so he could be as growly as he wanted and not feel bad about it. If a horse could look pissed, Julian covered that pretty well.

Firelight was alone, as per usual these days. Her chestnut coat glistening in the heat, she walked briskly despite the wretched heat and the dark sweat marks that were starting to form on her chest. Of course, she hadn't been alone, as of a few days ago. She had met Trowa, a lone stallion that had saved her from herself, with a few complications. Now, Firelight was wandering on her own, simply to get to know herself better. She liked this place, except for the fact that it was brutally hot, but she didn't mind that too much.
The filly was still troubled, and plagued by grief. It had only been a week since the death of her father and beloved Terro, and the filly had come a remarkably long way since their deaths. Nightmares still left her sweating and breathless in the mornings, but she was finding it easier and easier to accept their deaths. She knew she would never forget that day, her father, and Terro...Her mind wandered. The handsome blood bay colt that had melted Firelight's heart. The kind, witty, and caring stallion that she would have been able to call her own.
Firelight shook her head to clear it of these thoughts. Terro was dead now, it made no difference how much she thought about him. But she couldn't stop it. She couldn't stop his boyish grin coming into her thoughts, haunting her mind mixed with screams of terror and howling. She would never be able to even hear the word wolf again. It made her shudder just to think the word.
However, her thoughts were distracted when she spotted two stallions, and she stopped, watching them warily. She was a powerfully built filly, at three years old she decided that if it came down to it, she could take on at least one of those stallions. However, there were two, but curiosity overwhelmed the filly.
Damn her curious mind. She could never help herself, and it had always gotten her into a world of trouble. But she had always managed to get out again...sometimes, she needed a little help. However, these stallions intrigued her, and so she investigated. She walked quietly so that they would not hear her, and her eyes narrowed as she heard bits and pieces of their conversation, and she rolled her eyes.
Of course. They were playing who's the biggest and the baddest? Firelight smirked as she watched. She couldn't understand stallions, some that went searching for fights. These stallions were watching each other, and hissing harsh words back and fourth. The black stallion seemed demanding, and the tobiano seemed stubborn. Oh, this was going to be interesting. Firelight always loved watching stallion conflicts, but surely it was too hot to be fighting now? However, it seemed as though a fight might break out at any moment, and Firelight, being who she was, did not wish for that to happen.
The strong willed and rather bold filly made her way cautiously over towards the two stallions, and stopped twenty or so yards away, her dark green eyes narrowed. "Quite warm out today boys hmm? It would be a hellish day to deal with injuries in this heat, imagine the flies!" she grinned devilishly. Maybe they were going to fight, and maybe they weren't. Swishing her tail, she went on. "Surely you two could simply walk away and leave the other alone, as neither of you seem to be enjoying each others company."
Yes, she knew it was dangerous, and probably stupid. But hey, her father had taken risks, hadn't he? Well, his daughter was going to live out every similarity she had to her father...except perhaps his better sense of judgment. She wasn't overly concerned, she was a fast runner, and she was having a good time already. notes; oh this is going to be interesting

Shame nodded his head. "Yes. I am an Outcast too." He was about to ask something else, when the chestnut filly arrived. She was very beautiful, and she distracted him from the other stallion. "Vix, we have no intention of injuring each other. No, more likely one of us would die in a fight. Hardly ever just injuries from a fight with a dark." He growled harshly. No telling what alliance this young mare was.
He turned back to the stallion. "I need water. I expect you do to. Are we jut going to stand here or get a move on?" He tossed his head and addressed the filly. "Do you know where a stream or water hole is?" Not bothering to be polite, he asked her bluntly. Heat could do things to you, as he was never this demanding usually, more sly in getting what he wanted. Blame it on not enough water and heat.
Shame wobbled slightly as he turned to stare out across the plain. He needed water soon, or else he would just collapse. Until that happened, he would continue to take charge of the situation

Gaily I lived as ease and nature taught, And spent my little life without a thought, And am amazed that Death, that tyrant grim, Should think of me, who never thought of him. Julian didn't hear the mare approach, which rather surprised him when he heard her voice. He wheeled around to face her, his eyes narrowed and sending out a gaze that mimicked a dagger. His ears pressed firmly against his skull, and his nostril's flared. Julian hated when someone appeared without his knowing, but obviously he was just oblivious, because somehow, the other damn stallion had scented this bitch. Speaking of Shadowed Shame... Julian sent a baleful gaze in his direction. One of us would die? Julian snorted a bit rudely, "More like both of us would die, stud. Not just one of us." He didn't want to appear the weaker of the them all.
The stallion held his head out a little longer, feeling the muscles in his neck stretch. Julian's gaze fixed itself upon Shadowed Shame and he hissed darkly, "You are not going to tell me what I want, or what you expect of me. You are not in charge." No matter how bad he wanted the precious liquid, he wasn't going to fall to someone else's hooves for help. He glared. His pride could possibly be injured; why would he risk that? Julian shuffled a bit, but not nervously. He was trying to appear taller, and more handsome. If that was possible in the condition he was in. His knees wobbled, his sides heaved, his ribcage showed visibly, and he was covered in dirt and sweat. How handsome could he get? He felt regretful, wishing he would appeal more to the chestnut mare's pretty eyes. His jaw clenched. Why was he even bothering? He didn't like mares. Or stallions.
Julian slowly lowered his head, just a little bit. Even though he did not like mares, he had been taught to appreciate them and regard them kindly. Would he be a suck-up loser? Hell no. Julian didn't feel like being kind and patient, just wanted to seem more of a stud then Shadowed Shame. "Hello, mare," he said quietly, but a bit quickly and hurriedly. Get the polite stuff out of the way. "I am Julian, who might you be?" Shadowed Shame was asking if they should get a move on by this point, and Julian looked at him crossly. Ordering him around in a pushing way? Dammit. He already seemed the submissive, second-in-charge stallion. What a loser. His orbs narrowed.
"I say let's get a move on, before one of us falls to the sun's heat." Julian said with a smirk on his face, trying to provoke Shadowed Shame to perhaps embarrass himself and make Julian look good. The young stallion bounded forward a few steps, arching his neck elegantly to look back. "Well? Are you coming?" His legs trembled dangerously, and he tried to cover himself as he collapsed to one-knee, and heaved in quick, shallow breaths. He wanted water, bad. Julian felt light-headed, and was about to curse the sun. Was he delusional? Yes, more than always. "The sun is such a dirty bastard!" he cried out, standind himself back up and wobbling a little bit around before lowering his head to sniff the dirt. A sigh made his sides shake, and he turned, his eyes slightly glazed. He felt like he was dying. Was there a Hell for horses? If he wasn't already in it. "Are we going?"

Firelight snorted. She looked at the black horse inquiringly, with a skeptical stare. However, there was one thing he had said that bugged her; they were both dark horses. She didn't like the idea of being around them, but truthfully, they didn't seem all that bad. Sure, they were cranky and sullen...but then again, they might just be over exhausted by the heat. She almost pitied the black stallion. He was smart though, getting over his outright irritation at her, and asking shamelessly if she knew of a good water source. However, the red filly was not pleased by the manner in which he had asked her. However, she decided not to act on his manners. In fact, she had just recently wet her chops, and it had been some of the freshest, cleanest water she had ever tasted.
However, she was distracted by the other stallion. He seemed a little out of it, but he sure was angry. It seemed the black stallion was trying to control him a little, or tell him what to do, but the stallion was acting as if accepting the obvious would hurt his pride. For a moment, Firelight turned her attention to him. The tobiano stallion, Julian looked rather unsteady and...oh, bless him, he was trying to be studly. Well, frankly, it was very difficult to appear studly when you are lathered in sweat and dehydrated beyond reason. She actually laughed out loud when he tried to appear taller and better than the other horse. She didn't exactly wish to be mean, but it was just too funny to let fly.
"Don't hurt yourself, hon," she told hte stallion, and she started laughing again. She had a strong, ringing laugh; Terro had always said that was one of his favorite things about her, hearing her laugh. "As it turns out, boys, I have been at a stream, just before I ran into you." she said softly, containing her laughter as she watched them. She was playing with them now. It would take time for them to fully recuperate, and by that time, Firelight would be long gone. She looked at the stallion that appeared to be hitting on her, an pierced him with her inquiring stare. She wanted to know what he was all about, and how much he really wanted her.
"I don't care if you don't like being bossed around, but your...acquaintance is correct. You need water, and I know where it is so you're going to have to follow me." she said. With that, she turned lightly and swiftly on her heels, and set off at a trot, tail in the air. Oh, this was glorious! Two stallions would be forced to follow a mare! It was just too good to be true!

Shame just stood for a second, utterly bewildered by this gorgeous chestnut mare. First, she confronts them, and now she was leading them to look for a stream. Which he wanted badly. So all he could do was follow. He shook his head and cantered to catch up to her, arching his neck and pulling his hooves up high. Oh great, now even he was begging for her attention, she had reduced them both to faithful dogs, following her to the stream.
He looked back to see Julian was a little behind, but he had taken the worst of the heat. Even with his black coat, Shame had a lot of bulk, being part Friesian. He turned back to the lovely filly. "My being is Shadowed Shame. May I ask what they call you?" He asked softly, maybe even nicely. He was curious now, and he wanted to know about this mare. Was she a dark? Light? Neutral even? oh, how he loathed Neutrals, those cowardly bastards with not enough heart to choose a side. But if she WAS a Neutral, he'd have to change his view on things. She would definately make a good dark, though.
He stumbled a little on a rock, and his vision swam for just a moment, before he tossed his head and pressed on. His dark voids sought out the chestnut filly again, hoping she hadn't seen. But that was in vain, for he knew she would have heard it, at least. Julian was pretty much beside them now, so he turned towards the stallion and sighed, then growled out, but not overly harshly. "We better get this water soon" Dammit, why was he acting so weirdly? He cuoldn't think straight in this heat. Just the thought of water made his parched throat and dry tongue ache longingly.

Julian was not impressed with this mare. Nostrils flared, flank heaving, he trotted towards her, nipping her rudely. "Well? Where's the water?" He was so thirsty, it drove him crazy. God, bitch, hurry up! Angrily casting his politeness from earlier away, he narrowed his eyes at her. He was so freaking obsessed now, with the thought of a soothingly cold liquid dripping down his throat, making his tongue feel less swollen. Shadowed Shame was conversing with her now, and Julian drew himself up to full height (he was rather short, so it didn't matter anyways) and shakily shook his head, stomping his foot. "It's too hot to stand out here conversing, let us go onward to the pool of water?" Even with his deathly fear of water, he was so. damn. thirsty.
The stallion was ill-tempered now, as he was jumping a bit angrily from hoof to hoof. He was not pleased with the fact that he, out of all stallions, would be following a pathetic, beautiful mare to water, when if he had found the liquid first, they'd be following him. God. Swinging his head at Firelight, he neighed, "Come on, come on, where is the water?" The sunlight, beating furiously down upon them, make little pools of hallucinated water dance around Julian's hooves. Why was he so scared of water? He stood, the whites of his eyes showing, and his body language a bit frightened, and a bit angry. God. He glanced back and forth from Firelight to Shame, and then swished his tail, trotting forward wobbly a few steps.

It appeared that the chestnut filly had touched a nerve. The black stallion, who now introduced himself as Shadowed Shame, seemed a little bit more easygoing. However, he was very exhausted, and was definitely suffering from severe dehydration. She did pity him, and his acquaintance. She was pleased that they were following her...oh the joy of it! It would definitely be a moment that she would never forget, but she couldn't get too carried away. She had to make sure she left as soon as she gave them the water.
However, all her pity evaporated in a few short seconds. She felt the sharp, painful little nip as the tobiano stallion came by; he was angry at her and Shame. However, Firelight had her limits, and this stallion had breached them so badly she wanted to kick him with all the force she could muster. She restrained from this action, as it would do no good. The chestnut filly spun aroud, ears flattened and she squealed angrily at the wretched beast.
"Don't you DARE touch me!" she snarled. She rolled her eyes back at him, and drew herself up to her full height. "I don't have to show you any water if I don't want to! So you'd better clean up your act!" she growled. She eyed him coldly, all playful teasing gone. Then, she turned her back on him and picked up a brisk trot, then a canter. If they could keep up fine. She was sick of this. She made sure she glanced back ever now and then, to make sure that Julian hadn't decided to attack her. It had not been a hard nip, but it certainly had angered the young mare to leaving the poor brutes behind.
However, her good nature got the better of her, and she stopped a few hundred yards ahead of them, and turned, neck arched to stare at them coldly. She would show them the stream, and then she was gone.

He stopped dead in his tracks when Julian nipped her. Why the HELL would he do that? This good-looking mare was taking them to water. She could have left them at any time, because she knew full well how dehydrated they were, unable to gallop after her. He watched as she turned savagely on Julian, teeth bared. "Dont you DARE touch me!" her voice was absolutely furious. The mare turned back and practically galloped away from them. "Oh, now look what you've done." he snarled before begining to move off at a canter in an attempt to catch up with her. It was more of a trot, actually, and each time his hooves hit the hard ground it jarred his head painfully.
Thankfully the vixen stopped after a few hundred metres, allowing them to catch up. Shame was furious at the ignorance of Julian, but he buried it deep and tried to sound apologetic. Urgh, he was apologising? The idiot stallion should've done that, but still. "Please, we need water badly. He's had the worst of it, although he's a right bastard for giving you a nip..." He growled the last part under his breath, not caring if the other stud heard. How dumb could you get? Biting the horse that was helping you?
God, he didn't even know the sweet fillies name. She would have answered if it weren't for the tobiano. She was quite beautiiful...

finished!
Julian tossed his head, furious and frankly very pissed. Very coldly, he said in a firm voice, "I don't have to turn to some bitch to find myself the damn water." Don't touch her? He could do whatever the hell he wanted. He wasn't hers to control. Julian was very positive that he was a very dark horse that loved to live on the edge, so she had better suck it up. Glaring, Julian tossed his tail and turned his slightly insane eyes on Shame. That bastard.
As the mare had galloped away he had practically growled at him, and Julian flashed him a very angry look before hissing back, "What I've done? At least I'm not trying to flirt with her. I bet she's light. That'd show you to breed to your own kind." Prancing a bit back in forth in place, he exhaustedly plowed forward, his neck held forward determinedly.
He watched Shame trot-canter towards the fea. Ah. It was practically painful to watch. Drenched in hot sweat, Julian followed, actually stretching out in a gallop. God, he loved to gallop. It usually sent a faint breeze through his mane, but only the damned sun beat down upon his fur. Arrogantly, he turned his head at Shame and snorted disgustedly. That stallion made him sick to look at. Julian listened to him as Shame talked to the pretty little mare. His eyes burned with a fierce rage. Julian a bastard? No. "Perhaps you're mistaken," Julian hissed, in almost a smooth, very quiet voice, "You seem the bastard here." He flicked his tail in Shame's face and pranced up to the mare, staring at her with a bit of annoyance, curiosity, and hated. "My apologies, mistress," he muttered, but his eyes told that his words were a lie. "Are you a light? Your body speaks of it fluently, the way you act and such." An honest curiosity was the only thing that kept him from disrespecting her again. He never had learned her name, yet he didn't long to.
He wasn't attracted to the mare, but a slight attraction with Shame seemed perhaps a tad visible. Was he imagining it? Julian pinned back his ears and backed a few steps away from the mare, staring at her intently.
ooc: woo, I was able to get on for a while. sorry for the horrible post!

Firelight shook her head. They certainly were quite entertaining. She watched as they spat wicked comments at each other and caught up. She was mildly amused at their bickering, but found it rather tiresome. However, both stallions were very dehydrated, so she decided to give them a little slack. They both seemed desperate, and she smiled wryly at them. How could she not? They were funny, and she had to hand it too them...they were good looking. No, she had absolutely no interest in them, but if they weren't so damn annoying they would have a girl in no time.
She allowed her smile to fade at Shame's comments, and oh...if she had eyebrows, they would be gone in her forelock. She ignored all their rude comments, and started walking again. She was very troubled. She wanted to help them, but what if they tried to take her? What if they wouldn't let her go? However, she stopped when Julian asked her the question she had been desperately hoping to avoid. Was she a light? She sighed, and turned to face them eyes narrowed slightly, but not necessarily unfriendly.s "Okay, look, I'm not one for soliloquies, but hear me out. Yes, I'm a light. But don't expect some sweet little "Goody-Two-Shoe, because I am more likely to give you a well aimed kick then say anything that even resembles poetry or some stereotypical light thing." she finished this sentence, adding a hint of a growl on the end.
"Next, both of you should know that I am not interested. I'm trusting you to be able to figure out what that means." Now it was time for individuals. She turned to Shame. "You," she spat. "Don't be a kiss-ass." Then, she turned slowly to Julian. "And you, I swear to God if you nip me again, I will kick you so hard yo won't be able to walk properly for weeks." Having finished her speech, she inhaled. "So really," she said. "To sum it all up, both of you shut the fuck up and lets go find the water."
Wit that, she spun on her heels and picked up a slow jog. She wasn't going to look back unless they attacked her, or until they got the stream. It wasn't far. She could see the trees from here. Muttering to herself as she went, she wanted to show them where to go, and be done with it. It did not take her long, and she reckoned that her pace was reasonable enough. The stream snaked through the tall grass, and was difficult to see if you were any more than fifty feet away. It was lovely, cool, clear water, and there were some nice shady trees near the bank. When she reached it, she bent her head down to the wonderful clear liquid and drank deeply. She wasn't lacking in water, but it still tasted wonderful.
Her pity deepened for the two stallions; how horrible it must be to be out here in this wretched heat with no water...no wonder they were grumpy. But hey, her words were well placed, and completely valid...they had no right to treat her that way, even if they were darks.
muse; lol...really good words; 573 notes; lol, Firelight.......
